Частный случай парапатрического видообразования (parapatric speciation) - образование небольшой локальной популяции на границе с большой популяцией, как правило, сформированной несколькими особями-основателями; репродуктивная изоляция возникает в результате закрепления аллелей в процессе генетического дрейфа gene drift.* * *Перипатрическое видообразование — модель видообразования, предполагающая возникновение вида из малой популяции, которая оказалась в изоляции от исходной родительской популяции на периферии ареала обитания, вследствие чего в ней может произойти сдвиг в частоте генов под влиянием генетического дрейфа (см. Дрейф генетический).
